VDO Company was founded in 1920 by Adolf Schindling (Frankfurt, Germany). In a short period, the company has managed to become the world's largest supplier of tacho-graph meters and tools for passenger and commercial vehicles.

In 2000, Siemens Automotive (Europe) acquired Atecs Mannesmann VDO and in April 2001, the division was renamed Siemens VDO Automotive. The merger was completed in the U.S. in January 2002. Thus, Siemens VDO Automotive Corporation (USA) was formed, which is now one of 10 global automotive suppliers. Siemens VDO Automotive is made up of 137 offices in 34 countries. The number of employees is 50 000 and the annual turnover $8 billion. The company's headquarters are located in Germany, between the cities Regensburg and Schwalbach.
